Dampiera ‘Mat Blue’ plant description
‘Mat Blue’ is a dainty Australian native perennial that produces lovely dark green lanceoate-shaped leaves. It has a dense, prostrate growth habit.
In late Winter and Spring, masses of bright blue flowers with a yellowish-green throat appear in a stunning display. these flowers slightly resemble the native Fan Flower. Native bees and butterflies find it irresistible.
This adaptable, drought and frost tolerant plant grows to less than 5cm in height and 1m in wide, making it an excellent ground cover.
Interesting fact… the Dampiera species was named after William Dampier (1652-1715), the British explorer, naturalist, author, hydrographer and pirate no less!

Plant cultivation and care
Grow in a full sun / part shade position in well drained soil. If planting in a pot or hanging basket, use Australian native potting mix. Once established, Mat Blue will only require additional watering during dry periods. Feed with a native fertiliser in early Spring.
Propagate from softwood cuttings in late Spring.
