April gardening jobs checklist

  • Fill the garden with (hanging) pots full of Winter blooming annuals such as Pansy, Polyanthus and Calendula.
  • Give the lawn some love. Be sure to fertilise ahead of the cooler months.
  • Start thinking about your frost protection plan for frost sensitive plants.
  • Select your Winter and Spring flowering bulbs.
  • Enjoy the Roses and use this time to pick future purchases.
  • Deadhead plants that have finished their flowering period.
  • Add all those fallen leaves to your compost bin or garden as mulch.
  • Use this time to transplant any evergreen trees or shrubs.
  • Weeding, weeding, weeding.
  • Reduce watering routine.
  • Prune Tibouchinas once they have finished flowering (this could carry on into May).
  • Prune Hydrangeas back to the buds.
  • Fertilise your vege seedlings
  • Plant your garlic cloves.
  • Give your citrus trees some love – fertilise, water, mulch and pest control.
  • Keep an eye out for snails and slugs
