November gardening jobs checklist
- Sprinkle potash around tomatoes and strawberries. This improves fruit and overall disease resistance of plants.
- Prune Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow to prevent the poisonous fruits from forming
- Plant Summer flowering annuals and perennials
- Cover maturing tomatoes with exclusion bags to protect them from fruit fly
- Cut rose flowers and enjoy them indoors
- Prune Spring flowering roses back
- Take soft tip cuttings of your favourite shrubs
- Think about how you will protect any heat sensitive fruit and veges from the harsh Summer sun
- Feed Orchids fortnightly with a liquid fertiliser specifically designed for orchids
- Ensure watering systems, hoses, fitting etc are in good working order
- Check zucchini and cucumbers for powdery mildew
- Watch out for the Hibiscus Flower Beetle and the Flea Beetle on your Hibiscus
- Apply fertiliser to shrubberies
- Top up mulch on garden beds and in pots
- Give Bottlebrushes a good prune once they have finished flowering
- Keep an eye out for lawn grubs
- Prune Leucospermums and Proteas by cutting back the spent flower stems by one third
- Ensure compost heaps are kept damp
- Lift any Spring bulbs that have completely died down and store in a cool, dry place
- Fill any empty spots now with new plants before the Summer heat is upon us.
- Cut back Jasmine
- If you’re growing Sweet Pea, collect and store the seeds now so you can enjoy them again next year
