Plant description
A South American native, the Shrimp Plant is one of the most popular of this species.
A low maintenance shrub that grows to approximately 1.5m high and 1m wide, it is revered for its striking flower spikes which appear for a long period over Autumn to Spring.
Attractive reddish orange bracts surround the white, spotted tubular flowers which protrude from soft, pale green foliage. These resemble a prawn (otherwise known as a shrimp).

Plant cultivation and care
Plant in a full sun to part-shade position in moist, well drained soil. Provide plenty of water during Summer.
Propagate from cuttings during the warmer months.

Pruning
Prune regularly, especially after flowering to prevent the plant from getting straggly.
